Florida International Women's Day Mobilization

Across the state of Florida, women are under attack. Black women are dying at disproportionate rates during childbirth. Immigrant women are being separated from their children in detention centers. Transgender women and Indigenous women are disproportionately impacted by violence in our state. Comprehensive reproductive care and education is increasingly inaccessible to low-income women. Our ability to choose how and when we birth and raise a family is threatened more and more with each legislative session.

In the face of blatant attacks in our state legislature, it is crucial that we unapologetically uplift and center our stories and voices. On the first week of Florida’s legislative session and in honor of International Women's Day 2019, we join women around the world demanding justice for our families and communities and a more equitable Florida.

Join Dignity Florida, Florida Immigrant Coalition, Florida Planned Parenthood Alliance, Miami Workers Center, The New Florida Majority, NLIRH FL Latina Advocacy Network - FL LAN, Tallahassee FL NOW (National Organization for Women), Women's March Florida and other statewide partners at the Florida State Capitol on March 7 to honor the lives and resilience of women before us, those who are here now, and those who are still to come.

3rd ANNUAL WOMEN'S MARCH; TRUTH TO POWER
FIRST WE MARCHED, THEN WE ACTED

Women's March Florida Hosts

A CELEBRATION OF WOMEN AND FEMMES!

In January 2017 we made history when the women's movement took the world by storm with 576 solidarity marches across every state and every country. We shouted that we would NOT be silent anymore! We marched, we acted and now we are speaking truth to power!

If you can't make it to DC, join us in Orlando, Florida on January 19, 2019 with our sister chapters from across the state, as we celebrate YOU, the women and femmes who won and who lead the grass roots efforts to make this all possible!!

We have a day of activities planned to lift you up and propel you forward, as we harness the positive momentum of progress that we have achieved, to help us stay energized and continue to drive positive change on issues that matter to us.
We are taking over Lake Eola Park as a day to celebrate!

Activist Yoga and the Circle of Intention will take place on the northwest lawn.

Sponsor and Issues information tables will be located on the southwest lawn.

We will have performance art!

Our guest speakers will inspire us to action on women's issues that need us most right now.

Calling our sisters from across the state, to join us for yet another historic event to show the world that we have the power to make a difference when we speak our truth and amplify our voices in unison, to be heard around the world!

First We Marched. Then we Acted and now we Speak Truth to Power. #womenswave

Maria J. Torres-López is the Executive Board Secretary for Women’s March FL as well as the Palm Beach County Chapter Co-Captain and the founder of Diáspora en Resistencia. She was born and raised in Puerto Rico, where she began her social, political and civic contributions by being an involved citizen and carrying out her right of free speech in the political arena, civic, and humanitarian engagements. Maria became a political precinct volunteer and helped organize protests as a member of the University Federation Pro-Independence (FUPI). She also engaged in humanitarian actions by feeding the homeless and collecting and donating to foster homes. She engaged in civil disobedience during major conflicts in Puerto Rico, such as the struggle to remove the US Navy base from Vieques. She has worked and volunteered with multiple local, national and international organizations to expand and lift the voices of minority communities and seek equal justice for all. Maria is a tireless fighter for social justice and her country’s right to self-determination.

Viviana Bonilla López is a proud Boricua who grew up in her beloved San Juan. She is an attorney who currently works defending the civil rights of immigrants. She is passionate about mental health and disability justice, and can’t wait for the day that Puerto Rico finally gets its independence.

Lisa Santoni Cromar is a proud Puerto Rican woman. She believes strongly that health care (e.g. medical care, healthy food, clean water), education, body autonomy, LGBTQIA+, and disability rights, as well as physical and emotional safety, are human rights and must be defended. Since joining the Women’s March she has applied her efforts to racial justice, restoration of voting rights, and the fight for a just recovery for the people of Puerto Rico. When not trying to save the world, Lisa reads, writes, and designs knitting patterns.

3-14-18: National School Walkout

Women’s March Youth EMPOWER is calling for students, teachers, school administrators, parents and allies to take part in a #NationalSchoolWalkoutfor 17 minutes at 10am across every time zone on March 14, 2018 to protest Congress’ inaction to do more than tweet thoughts and prayers in response to the gun violence plaguing our schools and neighborhoods. We need action. Students and allies are organizing the national school walkout to demand Congress pass legislation to keep us safe from gun violence at our schools, on our streets and in our homes and places of worship.

Students and staff have the right to teach and learn in an environment free from the worry of being gunned down in their classrooms or on their way home from school.

Parents have the right to send their kids to school in the mornings and see them home alive at the end of the day.

We are not safe at school. We are not safe in our cities and towns. Congress must take meaningful action to keep us safe and pass federal gun reform legislation that address the public health crisis of gun violence. We want Congress to pay attention and take note: many of us will vote this November and many others will join in 2020.

Join us in saying #ENOUGH!
